Monique and Sheldon’s Snowy Mountains Wedding

Monique and Sheldon’s wedding was deeply rooted in place, memory, and a shared love of the mountains.

“We met at Perisher working as lifties in 2015,” they shared — and almost ten years later, it felt perfectly fitting that they would marry back in the Snowy Mountains, just after their decade anniversary. With Sheldon originally from the Snowy Monaro region and Monique based in Melbourne, their day was a beautiful convergence of past and present.

Their celebration unfolded at Tinkersfield, a stunning alpine property framed by open fields and mountain views. The morning began with relaxed getting-ready moments: Sheldon and his groomsmen settled into one of the field huts on the property, its interiors so beautifully styled that I couldn’t help but get a photo of Sheldon hanging out in one of the elaborate clawfoot bathtub, surrounded by his attentive groomsmen.

Monique and her bridesmaids got ready in one of the two-storey stone houses on site, joined by around twenty of their closest friends. Limoncello shots flowed freely — the perfect prelude to the day ahead. Florals by Thorn and Snow echoed the alpine setting with and winter-inspired tones of deep reds, burgundies, whites.

For their first look, the bridal party ventured out to Thredbo Diggings Campground — an expansive, wild landscape of alpine grasses and open skies. The portraits captured there felt quiet, grounding, and cinematic (a quick note for future couples: access requires a national parks pass).

Back at Tinkersfield, their ceremony was officiated by Married by Megan, who wove together stories from their early liftie days with warmth and humour. As night fell, guests danced beneath a canopy of plants in the garden room — one of the most breathtaking dance floors imaginable.

Monique and Sheldon wanted their wedding to feel relaxed and deeply connected to their people, with photography grounded in a documentary approach — natural, candid, and honest. Their day was exactly that: unforced, meaningful, and full of mountain magic.

Weddings at Tinkersfield Lake Crackenback

For couples dreaming of a mountain wedding, Tinkersfield offers a truly special setting. Located near Lake Crackenback in the Snowy Mountains, the property is expansive and private, with multiple accommodation options, open paddocks, stone buildings, and uninterrupted mountain views. One of its greatest strengths is flexibility — couples can host their ceremony and reception on site, move between indoor and outdoor spaces with ease, and create a celebration that feels immersive rather than staged.

Each season brings a distinctly different feel to weddings in this region. Spring and early summer offer alpine wildflowers, fresh green landscapes, and mild daytime temperatures, though evenings can cool quickly. Late summer and early autumn are popular for their golden grasses, long light, and more stable weather, while autumn introduces rich earthy tones and crisp mountain air. Winter weddings with potential snowfall are possible and incredibly atmospheric, but require careful planning around cold temperatures, early sunsets, and potential snow or road conditions.

Logistics are an important consideration when planning a Snowy Mountains wedding. Travel times between locations can be longer than expected, mobile reception can be patchy in some areas, and access to certain portrait locations — such as national parks — may require permits or passes. It’s also worth factoring in accommodation for guests, transport options, and weather contingencies.

With thoughtful planning, however, Tinkersfield rewards couples with a wedding experience that feels immersive, relaxed, and deeply connected to the landscape — one that truly makes the journey worthwhile.
